| Jake came to us from a shelter. We are not yet sure about his age, the vet will help us determine that on Monday. Jake has a sad story. He was adopted out to a young boy who couldn't care for his skin issues, so he was returned. Since returning to the shelter, he developed ringworm transferred to him by another dog. Currently, he is in isolation at our vet's office until he is deemed to be not contagious. He's got a special dip as well has medications to help him on his way to recovery. As you can see in the pictures below, his skin is in very poor condition. Jake has not yet been neutered, but when he is healthy enough, he will be neutered. Check back for updates on this sweet guy. UPDATE: from Jake's foster mom Jake is here at his foster. He was cleared by the doctor on Monday. Nothing contagious! The vet thinks he's about 2 years old. He is good w/all dogs, any size. Was not impressed w/cats but cat was impressed w/him! He's soo good w/people that I doubt he has any problems w/kids. Jake is eating well and loves the huge backyard and he has ck'd ever inch of the yard. Jake is crate trained, however, does not have to be crated when left alone So far he's doing great. He doen't know any commands but he's good on a leash. He's up to date on shots and has no heartworms. UPDATE 11/23/05: Once again this fella did super! I took him out in public for the first time to night. He went to Petsmart for a weigh-in. He walked well on a gentle leader. The first new encounter was the glass sliding door. He joyfully went through then froze. (he had gone through a door into a building from outside. Was he going to get punished?) He hit the floor. Lots of love and he got up and we started our walk on the new floor. Not too bad, a little slippery at first. Got on the scales and layed down! (long walk from front door to thescales!) He weighs 123.1 lbs...and he is strong.....glad he is so sweet. Since the store wasn't crowded at 6 pm on Thanksgiving eve, wedecided to let the dogs shop in the toys. Jake is a GOOD shopper and judge of soft "squeekies". As we walked, he settled down and became very sociable. People of all ages came to say how beautiful he is. He greeted and loved on a very precocious 3 yr old boy,, who gave and received kisses from both dogs, a 10 yr old girl and and 12 yr old girl, a man and 2 women. He also said hello to a Rotti, a very old Llasa and a puppy Schnauzer w/o any stress or agression. He went out the door and got in the car w/o any problems. WOW! what a new experience for him. .....my husband is talking about how easy it would be to be a "foster failure" w/this Dane....But we know there's a special family w/kids and a dog companion to play w/him. He really needs that. Will try to get new photos so all can see how handsome he is. UPDATE 11/28/05: Check out the new pictures of Jake! He looks fantastic and has definitely put on several greatly needed pounds. His skin is healing so well and almost all of his spots are gone! YAY for Jake! His foster parents have done a fabulous job of helping Jake on his way to being a healthy, happy boy again! |
