                    UPDATE
September 1st:
Nina is doing FANTASTIC in her foster home.  She's learning basic obedience and already knows to sit and
wait for an "OK" before she is allowed to go through any door that leads to outside.  Nina is putting on
weight, developing a gorgeous coat and is as sweet as pie.  Nina visited the vet on Monday and she does
not
have mammary tumors, thank goodness, but an infection in her mammary glands that has remained since
having her last litter, 7 months ago.  Nina is on anti-biotics to fight the infection and is scheduled to revisit
the vet in 10 days for a checkup and hopefully a clean bill of health.  She weighed 127lbs on Monday.
She's very tall for a girl and is very skinny, and should ideally gain about 25 more lbs.   Nina did also have
hookworms which have now been treated.  Nina is great with the cats, and the male Dane in her foster
home and absolutely loves to play and run with her foster brother.  Nina has a wonderful temperament and
we are so pleased that she is doing so well since coming to GDROC.
                  UPDATE
September 11th:
Nina re-visited the vet on Friday for her checkup.  After no progress in the infection of her mammary
glands, the fluid was again extracted and examined.  Unfortunately, the cells resemble that of cancerous
cells and Nina must have a complete mastectomy to remove all of the cancer from her body or we will lose
her.  Nina's surgery will cost  a minimum of $500 and we need donations to help pay for her surgery.

Nina had her surgery today, 9/19/05 and is doing very well.  The masses were sent off to
the lab for testing, but were removed without trouble and her prognosis is EXCELLENT!
Thanks to all of you who have been so very dedicated in helping us save this sweet girl!
Nina is recovering well.
We will continue to post
updates each day!
