THE REDOAK RESCUE

Sunday September 28th was the worst day in GDROC's rescue history. Our President and his wife went to Redoak Va. a 330 mile round trip, to rescue what we thought were 3 possibly 5 Danes from a neglective/abusive situation. When we arrived there were actually 8 dogs, 6 Danes and 2 mixed hound/Danes. All are in terrible shape. The property is disgusting and literally infested with millions of fleas and ticks. Every dog was completely covered with both. We have never seen this before, but the dogs clusters of ticks of 50 or more all grouped together all over their bodies. Millions of ticks were walking freely all over the ground, not to mention the poo and urine everywhere. The real issue is that the owner would not give us all the dogs. He insisted on keeping Marley and Deva. We literally tried for 2 hours to convince him to give them up. He would not. We managed to take home Baby, Ru and Scarlet. Spot unfortunately ran under the house and refused to come out. There were also several kittens that looked just as bad as the dogs, but we couldn't get close to them. These dogs are extremely ill. Initial report is that the three have all worms imaginable, 2 of them have heartworm and 2 of them have Lime disease. To make matters worse Scarlet may be pregnant. Babies wound is terribly infected. These dogs are in seriously bad shape and may not make it. At this time we are not sure. We need a few more days to investigate the extent of their illness. Stay tuned for more. RESCUE EFFORTS ARE ON GOING TO SAVE THE REST OF THEM. WE ARE WORKING TOGETHER WITH MAGDRL TO RETREIVE THEM FROM THE PROPERTY ON SATURDAY 4 OCTOBER.

This is Baby again. Yes that wound is terrible. It has been that way for a long time. X-rays revealed that the leg is actually broken in 3 places right under the wound. Poor girl lived with this for weeks.
